Kravitz directs Blink Twice, featuring a cameo from her dad, Lenny Kravitz, and praise from cast.
Zoë Kravitz made her directorial debut with the thriller Blink Twice, but calling “Action!” on set wasn’t as easy as it might seem. “It was crazy.
I think I started saying, ‘Let’s go!’ because ‘Action!’ gave me anxiety,” she said at the Los Angeles premiere.
Blink Twice centers around two friends, played by Naomi Ackie and Alia Shawkat, who join a tech mogul (Channing Tatum) on his private island.
What begins as a getaway soon spirals into a nightmare with elements of drinking, drug use, and danger. Tatum recalled the intensity of shooting a teaser for the movie, saying, “I knew we were in for a true creative grind, and that’s why it’s such a good movie.”
Ackie praised Kravitz’s directing skills, saying, “After the first take, we were all like, ‘Alright, mate, you’re doing it!’” She added that filming in the Yucatan was challenging, with unexpected encounters with local wildlife. “There were baby scorpions and tarantulas, and I was getting bitten by fire ants and stuff,” she shared.
Zoë’s father, Lenny Kravitz, makes a quick cameo in the film. “It’s for a split second,” Zoë said, laughing. Lenny’s appearance features him working out in a gym, wearing a see-through tank top, leather pants, and sunglasses. “I just thought it would be funny,” she explained.
While Lenny Kravitz didn’t attend the Los Angeles premiere, he showed his support at the London event. Zoë’s mother, Lisa Bonet, doesn’t appear in Blink Twice but was still a vital presence for Zoë during filming. “She does spiritually,” Zoë said. “She was my anchor throughout the whole film.”
As for the possibility of Big Little Lies Season 3, Zoë Kravitz is hopeful. Though she hasn’t seen a script yet, she eagerly awaits news of the continuation of the hit series.
