Vincent Kartheiser, known for his role in Mad Men, and Laura Slade Wiggins of Shameless fame, have joined the cast of the upcoming fantasy drama Go On. The film, which marks Landon Ashworth’s directorial debut, is set to begin production in New Mexico this September.

Go On tells the story of two strangers on a remote mountain ravaged by forest fires. As they struggle to survive, they help each other confront unresolved issues from their pasts, aiding in their transition to the afterlife. Ashworth, who also wrote the screenplay, was inspired by the loss of his young cousin, Landon Bellm, to suicide.

In a statement to Deadline, Ashworth expressed his excitement about the project and his admiration for Kartheiser. “Having my feature film directorial debut be my own screenplay which addresses real, meaningful, and relatable issues is an honor,” Ashworth said. “Also, having the opportunity to work with Vincent is beyond a dream come true. I’ve followed his career for over a decade and knew he needed to play the co-lead of this movie. His roles after Mad Men have just solidified my opinion that he’s one of the best dramatic actors of our generation and worthy of this role.”

Ashworth also expressed his enthusiasm for Wiggins joining the cast, calling it “humbling to say the least.” He noted that most directors don’t have access to such high-caliber talent for their first features. After spending years directing TV commercials and sketch comedy, Ashworth says he’s ready to bring this feature film to a global audience.

Kartheiser’s recent credits include the DC series Titans, as well as roles in Casual, The Path, and The OA. Wiggins, in addition to her work on Shameless, has appeared in films like Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase and 20th Century Women.

Ashworth, who has a strong following in the Autism community due to his sketch comedy, has been making waves in the entertainment industry. His TV pilot about women bra-makers who won the contract to build NASA’s Apollo spacesuits garnered attention at multiple screenwriting festivals last year. He’s also developing a NASA-endorsed musical about the space race, which he plans to stage in Georgia before potentially taking it to Broadway.

The project is highly anticipated, with Kartheiser repped by Paradigm and Untitled Entertainment, Wiggins by J Pervis Talent Agency and Luber Roklin Entertainment, and Ashworth by Established Artists.
