On July 15, the cast of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” (RHONJ) gathered at Rails Steakhouse for a unique season 14 wrap-up special, breaking from tradition by not having a standard reunion.

PEOPLE reported that this unconventional approach came after a tumultuous season characterized by deepening rifts among the cast members.

This marks the first time in the show’s history that a reunion has been skipped, a move only previously seen in the “Real Housewives” franchise during season 13 of “The Real Housewives of New York City,” which was followed by a complete cast overhaul.

Executive producer Andy Cohen hinted at a potential rebranding for RHONJ during a live episode of his SiriusXM show, though no concrete decisions have been made yet.

Cohen was notably absent from the taping, but sources shared insights on what transpired during the filming. In a departure from the usual reunion format, the cast was split into two groups to watch the season 14 finale for the first time, mimicking the approach taken by “Vanderpump Rules” in its season 10 finale.

Typically, cast members receive screeners of episodes before they air, but due to leaks, this privilege was revoked for this season.

As expected, the feuding sister-in-laws Teresa Giudice and Melissa Gorga were seated in separate rooms.

Giudice was accompanied by Jennifer Aydin, Dolores Catania, and Jackie Goldschneider, while Gorga watched the episode with Margaret Josephs, Danielle Cabral, Rachel Fuda, and Jenn Fessler.

Unlike previous reunions, the househusbands, often central to the drama, were not present. Last year’s reunion focused heavily on conflicts involving Joe Gorga and Luis Ruelas.

Instead of the usual formal gowns, the women were dressed in daytime lunch attire. While they were allowed to move between the two rooms, only Catania took advantage of this, briefly interacting with Gorga’s group before returning to Giudice’s side.

The season 14 finale, also filmed at Rails, promises several dramatic moments. The season premiere teased an explosive ending, showing a disheartened Catania sitting alone among the remnants of a table, reflecting on the fractured relationships.

However, insiders reported that the finale screening on July 15 was less explosive than anticipated, though it did feature at least one significant revelation that impacted both rooms. This revelation was not the moment Giudice has claimed would vindicate her.

Despite the tensions, some conflicts saw unexpected resolutions during the taping. After the screening, the women were invited individually for confessional interviews, adding another layer to the unique wrap-up special.

The RHONJ season 14 wrap-up special is set to air on August 11, following the finale on August 4. Variety noted that it remains unclear if the special will be split into multiple parts.

While the future of the franchise remains uncertain, Cohen has assured fans that they will be satisfied with the season 14 conclusion. “It’s in the great tradition of absolute shocking, dramatic Jersey finales,” he said in June.

“They have this final epic group encounter, which feels like The Last Supper and is just so Jersey. It’s shocking, it’s dramatic, and it’s amazing TV. People will be talking about it for a long time to come.”

As RHONJ moves towards this new chapter, fans can expect more intense drama and possibly significant changes to the cast and format. For now, they can tune in to Bravo on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET to catch up on the latest episodes and stream previous seasons on Peacock.
