Netflix is saying yes to more scandal in Texas. The streamer officially renewed The Hunting Wives for Season 2 after the soapy thriller became a surprise summer hit.

The series, adapted by Hightown creator Rebecca Cutter from May Cobb’s 2021 novel, first landed on Netflix in July after Lionsgate shifted the project from its original Starz home. Within weeks, it racked up more than 20 million views and spent five straight weeks on Netflix’s global Top 10 list — an impressive feat considering it was only available to U.S. audiences.

Now, with international rights sorted out, Netflix announced the second season will stream exclusively as a Netflix Original worldwide, making it available to fans across nearly every country.

Season 1 followed the complicated friendship between Margo (Malin Åkerman), a wealthy Texas queen bee, and Sophie (Brittany Snow), a newcomer who quickly gets swept into Margo’s glamorous yet dangerous orbit. Their bond spirals into affairs, betrayals, and murder — capped off by a jaw-dropping finale.

The last scene saw Sophie shoving Margo’s brother Kyle off a cliff into a river, only to accidentally answer Margo’s call on Kyle’s phone, leaving fans desperate to know what happens next.

According to Netflix, Season 2 will pick up with Sophie and Margo at odds, but secrets and fresh enemies soon drag them back together. As the women continue their risky games, the show teases a chilling question: Are they the hunters or the hunted?

Åkerman previously hinted at what could be in store, especially with Margo’s marriage in shambles. Her ultra-rich husband Jed (Dermot Mulroney), now running for governor, kicked her out — but Åkerman believes Margo will fight to regain her power. “I don’t think she wants to lose that lifestyle,” the actress told Variety. “I think she’ll find a way to come back to Jed and say, ‘I’ll play the good wife, just let me back in.’”

Along with Åkerman and Snow, Mulroney, Jamie Ray Newman, Evan Jonigkeit, and George Ferrier are set to return for the second season. Several other characters met shocking ends in Season 1, keeping the stakes high.

In a statement, Cutter promised another wild ride: “I’m so excited to write these amazing characters again, and I can’t wait to take the audience on another sexy, twisted, batshit crazy ride through Maple Brook.”

With betrayal, politics, romance, and murder all in the mix, The Hunting Wives Season 2 is gearing up to be Netflix’s next can’t-miss guilty pleasure.
