Selena Gomez recently opened up about something very personal—she shared that she won’t be able to have her own children because of health problems.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Selena, who is 32 years old, explained that her health would make it unsafe for her and the baby if she tried to carry a child.

“I’ve never said this before, but sadly, I can’t carry my own children,” Selena said. “I have health issues that would make it dangerous for both me and the baby.” She also talked about how hard it was for her to accept this, saying, “I had to grieve for a while.”

Selena has been open about her struggles with lupus, a disease that affects her immune system. She was diagnosed with lupus in 2015 and later, in 2020, she shared that she also has bipolar disorder, a mental health condition that affects her mood.

Despite these challenges, Selena is hopeful and excited about becoming a mom in the future. She said that adoption or using a surrogate (someone else who carries the baby for you) are great options for her. “I feel lucky that there are ways for people like me to become moms,” she shared. “I’m really excited about what my journey to motherhood will look like, even if it’s different. At the end of the day, it will still be my baby, and that’s what matters.”

Selena also remembered a moment from last year when she felt sad thinking about not being able to have her own children. She cried in her car, knowing that the medicine she takes for her bipolar disorder could cause problems if she tried to have a baby. But even then, she said, “However I’m meant to have children, I will.”

In the same interview, Selena also talked about her boyfriend, Benny Blanco, a music producer. She confirmed that they have been together since December 2023. “I’ve never been loved like this before,” Selena said with a smile. “He’s like a bright light in my life, and he’s my best friend. I love talking to him about everything.”

Selena even laughed about a moment when Benny said he wanted to marry her on The Howard Stern Show. “After he said that, I couldn’t stop laughing. I was like, ‘Is there anything else you want to say?’” she joked.

She also shared that she and Benny love spending time together by cooking. Selena said that her boyfriend helped her appreciate simple things like picking fresh food from the garden and cooking with it. “It sounds silly, but as I get older, I’ve learned that it’s okay to enjoy simple things.”

Through all the ups and downs, Selena’s story shows how strong and hopeful she is. Even though her journey to becoming a mom might look different, she’s excited about the future and the love she has in her life right now.
