Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, recently spoke about how much she enjoys being a grandmother.

During an appearance on This Morning on October 10, the 64-year-old shared how proud she is of her daughters and how much she loves spending time with their children.

Ferguson, also known as “Fergie,” is a grandmother to three little ones, with more on the way. Her eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, 36, has a daughter named Sienna, who was born in September 2021.

Beatrice also recently shared the happy news that she and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, are expecting another baby. Fergie’s younger daughter, Princess Eugenie, 34, is a mom to two sons—August, who is 3, and Ernest, who is 1—with her husband, Jack Brooksbank.

Talking about what it’s like to be a grandmother, Ferguson said, “How do you describe being a grandmother? It is one of the most precious, joyful, exciting moments because you’re so proud of your own children, and they’ve done such a good job.”

She added that spending time with her grandchildren makes her feel like a kid again. “Since I am clearly only a 3-year-old, I am actually loving making Barbie houses again,” she joked. Ferguson said she had forgotten how much fun it was but is enjoying every moment of it.

She also touched on how different it is to play with her grandsons compared to her granddaughter. “Now I have to play trains,” she said with a laugh. “Boys are different, and I’ve got to learn how to play with the train and not to mess it up… It’s really an amazing thing to be a grandmother.”

Ferguson’s grandkids have also been an inspiration for her writing. She shared that all of them love her children’s book Flora and Fern: Wonder in the Woods, which was influenced by her time with them.

The book, which is available now, teaches the importance of staying connected to others and caring for the world around us. In an Instagram post, she shared her hope that readers will enjoy the story, which is set in a fun, snowy setting.

“It was my goal to give readers an important message about the power of community and being connected to the world around you,” Ferguson wrote. She added that these are lessons she tries to teach her own children and grandchildren.

With another grandchild on the way, Ferguson’s love for her growing family is clear. Whether she’s building Barbie houses or learning how to play with toy trains, she’s fully enjoying her role as a grandmother and all the special moments that come with it.
