Get ready for a mix of laughs, family drama, and rock ’n’ roll nostalgia — the new indie comedy Peas and Carrots is officially hitting theaters on October 3.

The movie, written and directed by Evan Oppenheimer, follows 16-year-old Joey Wethersby (Kirrilee Berger of Unsung Hero), a New Yorker dealing with her parents’ quirky past. Turns out, Mom and Dad were once part of a 1990s one-hit wonder band. When Joey convinces them to start fresh with a new band, her own world gets stranger by the day.

Each night, she slips into an alternate reality where everyone repeats the phrase “peas and carrots” — and no one seems to think it’s weird.

Alongside Berger, the film stars Amy Carlson (Blue Bloods) and Jordan Bridges (Rizzoli & Isles), with a stacked supporting cast that includes Andrew Polk (Armageddon Time), Kelly McAndrew (Orange Is the New Black), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom), and Ajay Naidu (Office Space).

But the music is what makes Peas and Carrots stand out. The soundtrack features original songs created by big-name musicians, including Marky Ramone of the Ramones, Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, and Ryan Miller of Guster.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oppenheimer says collaborating with Ramone was a highlight, recalling how the punk legend helped transform a minimal chorus into what he calls a “rousing anthem.”

The project first premiered at the Dances With Films festival in June, where it drew attention for its offbeat humor and heartfelt story. Now, with distribution by Blue Harbor Entertainment, the film is set to reach a wider audience.

Blue Harbor executives praised Oppenheimer’s vision, calling the movie both inventive and heartfelt. The director echoed the excitement, saying he trusted the team to bring his film “out into the world” with energy and joy.

With its surreal storyline, family focus, and a soundtrack rooted in alt-rock history, Peas and Carrots promises to be a feel-good, music-driven ride perfect for families and fans of quirky comedies.

Peas and Carrots opens in theaters nationwide on October 3.
