The popular Irish black comedy series “Obituary” is set to return for a second season. The show, which airs on Hulu and originally premiered on Ireland’s RTE, is gearing up to continue its darkly humorous exploration of crime and murder, led by Siobhán Cullen.

“Obituary” follows the story of Elvira Clancy, played by Cullen, an obituary writer whose job becomes the catalyst for a series of unfortunate events. When the newspaper she works for falls on hard times, Elvira’s salary is slashed, and she’s forced to get creative to keep her job.

This leads to her discovering an unexpected talent for murder, as she begins to kill off the unpleasant residents of her town and make their deaths look like accidents.

The series combines elements of dark comedy and crime thriller, with Elvira’s growing list of victims attracting the attention of a new crime correspondent, who complicates her life by both investigating the murders and capturing her interest romantically.

The first season of “Obituary” was well-received by audiences and critics alike. It was praised for its sharp writing, dark humor, and the strong performance of Cullen in the lead role. The show drew comparisons to the hit series “Dexter” for its mix of crime, drama, and dark comedy.

The success of the first season was further cemented with several nominations at the Irish Film and Television Awards, where it garnered attention for best drama series and best actress.

Season 2 of “Obituary” is expected to consist of six episodes, with Ray Lawlor returning to write the script. The original production companies, Magamedia and APC Studios, are once again involved in the project, with Hulu continuing to provide funding.

While the cast for the upcoming season has not yet been officially confirmed, it is likely that Cullen will reprise her role as Elvira Clancy, given her central role in the series. Cullen has gained further recognition for her roles in other projects, including “The Dry” and Netflix’s “Bodkin.”

“Obituary” is filmed in the scenic county of Donegal, adding a unique Irish flavor to the series that has resonated with both local and international audiences.

Directed by John Hayes, known for his work on “Dublin Murders,” and Oonagh Kearney, who directed “Vardy vs Rooney,” the series is expected to maintain the high standards set by its first season.

As the show prepares for its second season, fans can anticipate more of the darkly comedic antics that made the first season a hit. Elvira Clancy’s story of murder, deception, and unintended romance is set to continue, promising more twists and turns as she navigates the increasingly complex web she has spun.

With its unique premise and strong storytelling, “Obituary” is poised to keep audiences entertained and on the edge of their seats once again.
