The Queen of Versailles, a new musical starring Kristin Chenoweth and F. Murray Abraham, is set to make its Broadway debut in the 2025-26 season, as announced by producers on Monday.

“The entire Queen of Versailles company is having an incredible time building this new original American musical with the gracious and arts-loving audiences in Boston,” stated producers Bill Damaschke, Seaview, and Diva Worldwide Entertainment. “We look forward to the journey ahead and bringing this story to Broadway in the 2025-26 season.”

Currently, the musical is running at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre until August 25, marking its pre-Broadway run.

The production is based on Lauren Greenfield’s acclaimed 2012 documentary film, The Queen of Versailles, which chronicles the lives of Jackie and David Siegel, former Florida billionaires. The musical adaptation will feature music and lyrics by the Oscar-winning songwriter Stephen Schwartz, with a book by Lindsey Ferrentino. The production will be directed by Tony Award winner Michael Arden, known for his work on Parade and Once on This Island, with choreography by Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher Cree Grant, also from Parade.

In a recently released first-look photo, Chenoweth and Abraham are seen in character as Jackie and David Siegel, surrounded by the construction and camera crews that turned their ambitious home renovations into a chaotic endeavor.

The musical is set to have its opening night at the Emerson Colonial Theatre on August 1. Details regarding the Broadway production timeline are expected to be announced soon.

Joining Chenoweth and Abraham in the principal cast are Melody Butiu, Stephen DeRosa, Greg Hildreth, Tatum Grace Hopkins, Isabel Keating, and Nina White.

The Queen of Versailles is produced by Bill Damaschke, Seaview, and Kristin Chenoweth through her production company, Diva Worldwide Entertainment. Damaschke has a notable history with the Emerson Colonial Theatre, having produced the world premiere of Moulin Rouge! The Musical in Boston in 2018. Moulin Rouge! subsequently moved to Broadway, where it won 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The production team is excited to bring this compelling and larger-than-life story to Broadway audiences. The Queen of Versailles promises to deliver a fascinating look into the lives of the Siegels, capturing their triumphs and tribulations with humor and heart.

As the musical continues its run in Boston, audiences have a limited time to catch the pre-Broadway performances and experience the journey of the Siegels through the captivating performances of Chenoweth, Abraham, and the entire cast. The anticipation for its Broadway arrival builds as theatergoers eagerly await more details on its upcoming debut in the 2025-26 season.
