With the Venice Film Festival just around the corner, a teaser for Argentinian director Luis Ortega’s latest film, Kill the Jockey, has been revealed. Starring Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, the movie is set to compete in the festival’s prestigious lineup.

Kill the Jockey is an absurdist comedy that follows the life of a legendary jockey, played by Biscayart, whose self-destructive tendencies are threatening his career and relationship with his girlfriend, portrayed by Úrsula Corberó.

The plot takes a dramatic turn when the jockey, on the day of a crucial race meant to clear his debts with mob boss Sirena (played by Daniel Gimenez Cacho), suffers a severe accident.

He disappears from the hospital and begins to wander the streets of Buenos Aires, embarking on a journey of self-discovery. However, Sirena is determined to find him, dead or alive.

The film is set to have its world premiere in Venice this week, followed by a North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it will feature in the Centrepiece section.

Ortega co-wrote the script with Rodolfo Palacios and Fabián Casas. Biscayart, known for his roles in 120 Beats per Minute and My New Friends, takes on the lead role, while Corberó, famous for her role in Netflix’s Money Heist, plays his girlfriend Abril.

The film is a collaboration of several top Latin American producers, including Benjamín Domenech, Santiago Gallelli, and Matías Roveda of Rei Pictures, and Ortega and Esteban Perroud from El Despacho.

Other producers include Infinity Hill’s Axel Kuschevatzky and Cindy Teperman, Warner Music Entertainment’s Charlie Cohen, and Exile’s Nando Vila and Paz Lázaro.

Notable executive producers on the project are Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro, Isaac Lee, and Ron Broitman, among others.

Kill the Jockey is co-produced by companies such as Piano, El Estudio, Snowglobe, Jacinto Films, and Barraca, in collaboration with VIX, Pampa Films, Gloriamundi, Dim Films, and Fundación Ernesto Sábato. Protagonist Pictures is handling the film’s sales.
