Katy Perry has announced the release date for her upcoming single “Lifetimes,” set to drop on August 9, along with its accompanying music video.

Perry shared the news via social media, unveiling the cover art for the track, which features her holding a futuristic heart. Over the past week, she has been teasing the house-inspired song through various clips posted on her social media accounts.

“Lifetimes” follows the release of “Woman’s World,” the first single from her forthcoming sixth album, “143.” Released earlier this year, “Woman’s World” marked a rocky start to Perry’s latest musical era.

The track debuted at No. 63 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 65 on the Global 200, a modest performance that disappointed some fans.

The involvement of Dr. Luke, Perry’s former collaborator who faced accusations of sexual misconduct from artist Kesha, sparked further controversy around the song.

The music video for “Woman’s World,” intended as an ironic take on female empowerment, received mixed reactions for being heavy-handed.

Perry addressed the feedback, explaining, “We’re having fun, being sarcastic with it. It’s very slapstick and very on the nose… it’s like a reset for me and my idea of the feminine divine.”

Despite the mixed reception, Perry remains enthusiastic about her new music. Though the tracklist for “143” has not been officially revealed, the album is scheduled for release on September 20.

During recent live streams on Instagram and TikTok, Perry previewed several new songs, including “I’m His He’s Mine” featuring Doechii, “Gimme Gimme” featuring 21 Savage, and “Nirvana.”

“143” will be Perry’s first album since “Smile,” which was released in August 2020. “Smile” featured singles such as “Daisies” and the title track but was Perry’s weakest-performing album in years, debuting at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.

Perry’s new single “Lifetimes” is anticipated to set a different tone for her upcoming album, with its house-inspired sound. Fans are hopeful that it will fare better than “Woman’s World” and help to reignite Perry’s place in the pop music landscape.

As the release date approaches, anticipation is building for both the single and the music video. Perry’s fans are eager to see what new directions she explores in “Lifetimes” and the rest of “143.”

With “Lifetimes” set to drop on August 9, Katy Perry is poised to make a significant impact on the music scene this summer. The release will give fans a taste of what’s to come on “143,” as Perry continues to evolve her sound and artistry.
