Recently, famous rapper Kanye West (also known as ‘Ye’) had his account deactivated on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter). Prior to this, he had been posting anti-Semitic and racist comments for several days. He called himself a ‘Nazi’ and referred to Hitler as ‘cool.’ These remarks were widely criticized globally, with many organizations labeling them as hate speech.
It is still unclear whether Kanye West deactivated his account himself or if the platform removed it. Now, his profile page only displays the message: “This account doesn’t exist.”
Before this incident, Kanye West made several controversial statements on X. He used hateful language against the Jewish community and stated that he would never apologize for his comments. Following his remarks, many celebrities urged X owner Elon Musk to remove Kanye West from the platform.
Famous actor David Schwimmer wrote on Instagram, “We can’t stop a deranged person from spreading hate, but we can certainly stop giving them a platform. Kanye West has 32.7 million followers, which is twice the number of Jews in the world. His hateful words fuel violence against Jews.”
This is not the first time Kanye West has made anti-Semitic comments. In 2022, he made similar remarks, after which his X account was restricted. At that time, his partnership with Adidas was also terminated.
Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), condemned Kanye West’s comments, saying, “This is a vile example of hate and racism. Kanye’s statements have previously led to an increase in violence against Jews. We must clearly call this hate and stand against it.”
Kanye West’s remarks have once again sparked a debate on social media. People are saying that major platforms should take responsibility for hate speech and should not provide a platform to such individuals.
