Kaia Gerber’s parents, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, are reportedly concerned about the future of their daughter’s relationship with actor Austin Butler.
Despite dating for over three years, the couple has not yet announced an engagement, and this has made Kaia’s parents wonder about Austin’s long-term intentions.
Kaia, a 23-year-old model and actress, has been with Austin, 33, since late 2021, but her parents, Cindy, 58, and Rande, 62, feel like it might be time for the relationship to move forward. Recently, they had a serious conversation with Austin about his plans for their daughter.
Although they care for him and consider him almost family, they’re starting to worry because after dating Kaia for more than three years, there’s still no sign of a proposal.

A source close to the family told DailyMail.com, “Rande and Cindy both love Austin and think of him as part of the family, but he still isn’t officially family. They’re wondering why he hasn’t asked Kaia to get engaged after all this time.”
Cindy and Rande don’t doubt that Austin loves Kaia, but they believe that at 33 years old, he should be thinking about settling down.
“They don’t think for a minute that Austin isn’t serious about her, but they feel like it’s time for him to consider what’s next in their relationship,” the source said.
Kaia and Austin were first seen together in December 2021, soon after Kaia’s breakup with Saltburn actor Jacob Elordi. By March 2022, Kaia and Austin officially made their relationship public at a pre-Oscars party.
Since then, they’ve been seen together at major events like the Met Gala and the Cannes Film Festival, where they shared affectionate moments in front of cameras.
Over the course of their relationship, Austin has grown close with Kaia’s family. He even went on vacation with Cindy and Rande earlier this year, joining them on a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. They’ve also been seen on casual outings, like a double date at a California restaurant.
Despite their close bond, Cindy and Rande are worried that their daughter might be spending the “best years of her life” waiting for a commitment that hasn’t come yet.
“Rande reminded Austin that Kaia is young and in a great stage of her life. They don’t want her to miss out on these years if the relationship isn’t moving forward,” the source explained.
However, Austin reassured Cindy and Rande that his intentions were honorable. He told them that he simply needed more time to take the next step and pointed out that Kaia is only 23. He didn’t want to rush into anything, even though they’ve been together for three years.
Kaia and Austin have mostly kept their relationship private. In a February interview with WSJ Magazine, Kaia called their relationship “sacred” and said it’s one of the few parts of her life she likes to keep private.
Around the same time, Austin complimented Kaia’s cover on British Vogue, calling it “legendary” and expressing how proud he was of her.
Lately, though, rumors have circulated that their relationship might be on shaky ground. Kaia recently celebrated her 23rd birthday without Austin, leading to speculation that the couple could be having problems.
Austin, who is currently filming the movie Caught Stealing in New York with Matt Smith, has also been very busy with work.
Before dating Kaia, Austin was in a nine-year relationship with actress Vanessa Hudgens. The two broke up because they couldn’t handle the challenges of long-distance dating.
Kaia, on the other hand, had a few well-known relationships before Austin. She dated actor Jacob Elordi for a year and was briefly linked to comedian Pete Davidson when she was 18.
