The cast of John Tucker Must Die is eager to bring a sequel to life, according to Arielle Kebbel. The actress, known for her role as Carrie in the 2006 teen comedy, revealed that efforts are ongoing to make the project a reality.

“There’s a lot of talk about the sequel,” Kebbel told PEOPLE during the Warner Bros. Fall TV Celebration earlier this year. “We’re continuing to do our best to push forward on that.” She added that the project is “special” and hinted at the cast’s enthusiasm, saying, “Everyone’s very supportive of a sequel.”

Speculation about a second film began in March 2024 after a reunion panel at Epic Cons Chicago. Original cast members, including Jesse Metcalfe, Sophia Bush, and Kebbel, reunited to discuss the beloved movie. During the panel, Metcalfe, who played John Tucker, teased fans by mentioning, “I’ve heard rumors of this script—apparently, it’s amazing.”

The original film centers on John Tucker, a high school heartthrob and serial dater who juggles relationships with three girls at once. After discovering his antics, the girls, along with new student Kate Spencer, team up to teach him a lesson.

Kebbel shared during the event that the sequel’s script would include all the original cast members. She hinted that John Tucker’s character “may or may not get a chance to change” his ways, which could make the storyline even more intriguing.

While Kebbel and some cast members are optimistic, others seem unsure about their involvement. Brittany Snow, who played Kate, revealed on Penn Badgley’s podcast Podcrushed in July that she hasn’t been contacted about a sequel.

“Penn, I don’t know if you’ve had a call, but I’ve gotten no call,” Snow said. Badgley, who played John’s brother Scott Tucker, jokingly replied, “I’ve had no call, no. I mean, maybe it’s possible in some quantum physics way, but I can’t say for sure.” He also noted his smaller role in the original film, saying, “I don’t know that I would belong in it anyway.”

Despite these uncertainties, Kebbel remains hopeful. She stays in touch with many of her former co-stars and recently celebrated Ashanti’s new baby. “I’m so happy for her,” Kebbel shared, adding that she spoke with Metcalfe just a week before her October interview with PEOPLE.
