The fifth episode of Agatha All Along on Disney+ has finally revealed a major secret: Joe Locke’s character, known as Teen, is actually Billy Kaplan—Wanda Maximoff’s son and the teenage superhero Wiccan. Fans of the Marvel universe had their suspicions, but it was still a shock when a magical crown, similar to the Scarlet Witch’s, appeared on Billy’s head during the big moment.

Locke, thrilled that the secret is finally out, told Entertainment Weekly how nervous he was before the episode aired. “I feel like I can finally breathe,” he said. “I’ve been keeping this secret for so long, and now it’s out there.” Since Locke lives in the U.K., where the episode drops at 2:00 a.m., he prepared for the long night by taking melatonin to help him sleep. “I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep from all the excitement, so I just drugged myself. When I woke up, my phone was blowing up.”

In the episode, titled “Darkest Hour / Wake Thy Power,” Billy shows his powers in a shocking way by trapping three witches—Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), and Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata)—in a pit of mud. This dark moment raised questions about his character and intentions.

“When the show started, Billy was just a familiar—a helper for the witches,” Locke explained. “But now that we know he’s a witch too, things are different. He’s more powerful than the others, which changes the group’s whole dynamic.”

Locke shared how the writers wanted the audience to wonder whether Billy is good or bad. “Just because he can hurt people doesn’t mean he’s evil,” he said. “It’s the same with his mom, Wanda. She did some bad things, but that didn’t make her a bad person. And with Agatha, things aren’t black and white either.” The actor said playing Billy was exciting because of this mix of light and dark. “Is the friendly, fanboy side of him real, or is it just an act? We wanted the audience to be unsure.”

Since Billy’s powers are similar to Wanda’s, Locke worked with Jennifer White, the movement coach who helped Elizabeth Olsen develop Scarlet Witch’s signature hand gestures. “We wanted Billy’s magic to feel connected to Wanda’s but with his own twist,” Locke explained. “In the scene where Billy sends Agatha into the mud, the script described his move as a ‘familiar hand gesture.’ We worked hard to make sure that fans would notice the similarity.”

The episode leaves viewers with plenty of questions, especially about what happens to the witches. “Billy’s not doing a good thing at the end of the episode,” Locke admitted. “We don’t know what happens to Agatha and the others. But one thing is certain—this moment will change the relationships in the group moving forward.”

Fans of Agatha All Along will have to wait to see what’s next for Billy and whether he’ll stay on the right path—or drift into something darker. New episodes drop every Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on Disney+.
