Janelle Monáe slammed rapper Nelly on Sunday for performing at Donald Trump’s inauguration celebration. Janelle made these remarks at a Grammy Awards afterparty, where she covered Nelly’s famous song “Hot in Herre.”
During her rap, Janelle said, “Nelly, you lost your credibility by performing for Donald Trump. I care about women and the Hispanic community, but you betrayed everyone. I used to think highly of you, but now you just look like a fool.”
This performance was done by Janelle alongside Anderson .Paak, the owner of the bar where the party was held.
Nelly faced significant criticism after it was announced that he would perform at Trump’s inauguration celebration. However, Nelly defended his decision, stating that he is not influenced by anyone’s political views but works for the betterment of his city and country.
Nelly said, “I didn’t think people were with me just because I voted for their preferred candidate. I just want to do something good for my city and country. Trump is now the president, and I performed in his honor. This is not a political issue.”
The controversy between Janelle Monáe and Nelly has become a topic of discussion on social media. While many agree with Janelle’s views, some are supporting Nelly’s decision.
