Cristin Milioti, known for her roles in How I Met Your Mother and Palm Springs, has taken on a dark and intense role in HBO’s The Penguin.

In the show, which is set in the same world as The Batman, Milioti plays Sofia Falcone, a mobster who returns to Gotham after spending 10 years in Arkham Asylum for murders she didn’t commit.

In one standout episode, Sofia’s backstory is revealed. It turns out that her father, Carmine Falcone, framed her for his crimes. He was the real killer, not Sofia.

This episode, called “Cent’Anni,” shows how Sofia, once innocent, transforms into a ruthless and vengeful figure. Milioti’s performance shines as she portrays Sofia’s mental and emotional breakdown, ending with her taking revenge on her family.

Milioti worked closely with movement coach Julia Crockett to show how Sofia’s time in Arkham affected her body and mind. She also collaborated with the show’s creator, Lauren LeFranc, to bring out the complex emotions and intense journey of her character.

Milioti has received some of her best reviews for this role, with many comparing her to famous movie characters like Michael Corleone from The Godfather.

She shared how much she loved playing such a challenging role, describing it as a childhood dream come true. Despite the dark storyline, Milioti says she had “the time of her life” bringing Sofia Falcone to life on screen.
