Cristin Milioti Not Returning as Sofia Falcone in ‘The Batman 2,’ Says Matt Reeves

Cristin Milioti, who recently won an Emmy for her performance in #The Penguin#, will not be reprising her role as Sofia Falcone in The Batman 2.
Director Matt Reeves confirmed the news during an interview at The Emmys, noting that while Milioti’s portrayal was “astonishing,” the character simply did not fit into the current direction of the sequel’s storyline.
“Cristin’s not in this one,” Reeves said. “By the time we were deep into the script, adding Sofia would have disrupted where the story was headed. What she did in the show was incredible, and Lauren [LeFranc, The Penguin showrunner] created such a special version of the character. It would be exciting to do something with her again, but she’s not in this one.”

Milioti’s take on Sofia Falcone was one of the standout elements of The Penguin, earning her the Emmy for lead actress in a limited series. Her intense and layered performance was praised by both fans and critics, making her absence from the next Batman film all the more noticeable.
Reeves also hinted at the possibility of revisiting her character in the future, either in upcoming DC projects or potentially in another season of The Penguin. “We’re in discussions,” Reeves revealed. “Lauren is thinking hard, and we’re talking. We love the show and think the cast did incredible work. The passion was there, but we never imagined it would be received the way it was.”
The news comes as fans eagerly await The Batman 2, which is set to release on October 1, 2027. While Sofia Falcone won’t appear, Reeves’ comments suggest the door isn’t completely closed for Milioti’s return to Gotham’s gritty underworld in some capacity down the line.
In the meantime, viewers can revisit her Emmy-winning performance in The Penguin, and keep an eye on DC’s expanding slate of films and shows that promise to further explore Gotham City’s complex criminal landscape.
