Starting in January, Craig Melvin will join Savannah Guthrie as the new co-anchor of NBC’s Today show. He is taking over the job from Hoda Kotb, who is stepping down after years in the role. Kotb announced her choice a few months ago and was excited to share the news about Melvin. “You are made for this job,” Kotb said to Melvin. She praised him and said, “You’re the right person for it.”

Melvin has been with the Today show since 2018. He already hosts the show’s third hour with Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones, and Dylan Dreyer. He will begin his new role as co-anchor on January 13. Kotb’s last day on the show will be January 10.

During the announcement, Roker joined virtually to congratulate Melvin. Roker said he always knew Melvin was “ready for this responsibility.” He told Melvin, “I am so proud and happy for you. You are so worthy of this.” Melvin thanked Roker and said he felt very grateful for the new position.

Melvin also thanked his family, including his wife, Lindsay Czarniak, and their two children. He spoke warmly about his parents, especially his mother, who worked many jobs to support the family. Melvin also thanked his friends and fans, saying, “I’ll try not to mess it up!”

Kotb’s other position in the fourth hour of the Today show, which she hosts with Jenna Bush Hager, will now have a guest host each week until a new co-host is chosen. This part of the show will be called Today with Jenna and Friends for now.

Melvin’s family, friends, and fans are excited for him to take on this new role. People enjoy his kind personality and professionalism, and he brings great energy to the Today show. This will be an exciting time for Melvin and the Today team as they enter this new chapter.
