O’Brien jokes about playing a gigolo in The White Lotus Season 3 during podcast chat.
Comedian Conan O’Brien recently shared an amusing anecdote about pitching himself for a role in the upcoming third season of The White Lotus.
The former late-night host revealed the story during the August 19th episode of his podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, where he was joined by actor Walton Goggins.
O’Brien recalled running into The White Lotus creator, Mike White, at a restaurant in Bangkok before the third season of the hit HBO series began filming.
During their conversation, O’Brien playfully suggested that he’d be interested in joining the cast for the upcoming season, which is set in Thailand.
“I ran into none other than Mike White in a restaurant,” O’Brien recounted on the podcast. “I said, ‘Hey, so the next season of The White Lotus, you’re going down to Thailand, right?’ And he said, ‘Yeah.’ And I said, ‘I was there. I had a great time. I made a lot of friends.’”
Seeing an opportunity, O’Brien didn’t hesitate to pitch himself for a role. “I told him, ‘If there’s a part for me, I’m available.’” White’s response, however, took the conversation in a humorous direction.
“He looked at me, and he said, ‘You know, there’s a lot of sex work there,’” O’Brien recounted with a laugh. Without missing a beat, O’Brien jokingly replied, “I could play a part where I’m a male gigolo or something.”
Goggins, who is set to appear in the third season of The White Lotus, encouraged O’Brien’s playful idea. “Yes, you could do that. I believe that you could do that,” Goggins said, backing up the comedian’s tongue-in-cheek suggestion.
Taking the joke further, O’Brien asked, “Do you think I could play that part, or do you think I actually could be a gigolo?” Goggins quipped back, “Well, I think you could do both. I think you could play that part, and you could be that person in real life.”
While it remains to be seen if O’Brien will make a cameo in The White Lotus, his exchange with White and Goggins highlights the comedian’s trademark wit and willingness to poke fun at himself.
The White Lotus Season 3, set in Thailand, has already generated considerable buzz. The upcoming season boasts a star-studded cast that includes Carrie Coon, Michelle Monaghan, Leslie Bibb, Parker Posey, Scott Glenn, and returning star Natasha Rothwell, among others.
