In a historic first for Hollywood, tickets for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey are now officially on sale—a full year before its scheduled release.

The Oscar-winning director is once again partnering with Universal and IMAX to deliver a cinematic experience unlike any other, with advance tickets available only for select IMAX theaters equipped to show the film in 70mm.

This unprecedented early ticket release kicked off at midnight EDT on Thursday, July 17, exactly one year ahead of the film’s July 17, 2026 premiere. According to IMAX, this marks the first time in cinema history that tickets for a film have gone on sale this far in advance.

Starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, the film is Nolan’s most ambitious project yet, boasting a massive $250 million budget and an ensemble cast that includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal.

The film adapts Homer’s ancient Greek epic, following Odysseus on his perilous journey home after the Trojan War, encountering mythical creatures like the Cyclops and the Sirens.

True to Nolan’s signature style, the movie is being shot entirely with IMAX 70mm film cameras—made possible only after Nolan convinced IMAX to upgrade its equipment following the success of Oppenheimer.

“Chris called me up and said, ‘If you can figure out how to solve the problems, I will make [The Odyssey] 100 percent in IMAX,’” said IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond.

A teaser trailer for the film debuted exclusively in theaters ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth over the Fourth of July weekend. While some theater chains leaked the ticket sale early, the official rollout reflects Nolan’s strong belief in big-screen, large-format experiences.

With its groundbreaking production and early marketing push, The Odyssey is already shaping up to be one of the biggest cinematic events of 2026.
