Chris Martin is calling for compassion after the shocking death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

On Friday night, during Coldplay’s final Music of the Spheres World Tour show at Wembley Stadium in London, the frontman paused the music to share a heartfelt message. “Let’s raise our hands like this and send love anywhere you wanna send it in the world,” he told fans. “You can send it to your brother or sister, you can send it to the families of people who have been going through terrible stuff.

You can send it to Charlie Kirk’s family, you can send it to anybody’s family. You can send it to people you disagree with, but you send them love anyway.”

His remarks came just two days after Kirk, 31, was killed during a speech at Utah Valley University. Authorities said he was shot in the neck from a nearby building, and 22-year-old Utah local Tyler Robinson has since been arrested in connection with the shooting.

The tragedy has shaken both political and cultural circles. Politicians across the spectrum condemned the killing, calling it an act of political violence. Still, the reaction has been mixed, with many pointing to Kirk’s polarizing role as co-founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative student organization that frequently made headlines for its controversial stances.

President Donald Trump weighed in with a strongly worded statement, blaming the “radical left” and promising that his administration would “find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity.”

What made the moment especially striking was how unexpected it felt in a stadium full of fans ready for a celebration. Instead of shying away from a sensitive topic, Martin leaned into the band’s long history of weaving social awareness into their performances.

Fans later took to social media to share clips of the moment, with many praising him for choosing empathy over politics.

But Martin’s message was one of healing. Beyond mentioning Kirk’s family, he extended his call for love to conflict zones worldwide, including Ukraine, Russia, Sudan, Azerbaijan, and the Middle East.

The moment captured Coldplay’s signature spirit of unity, with thousands of fans lifting their hands in solidarity.

While political tensions in the U.S. remain high, Martin’s words offered a reminder of music’s ability to rise above division and bring people together—even in the face of heartbreak.
