Spears’ film breaks on rumors, confirming not a biopic but a fictional musical.
The pop icon herself has shared a mysterious update amid recent speculation about a possible biopic based on the life of Britney Spears.
Spears recently shared on Instagram that the project she is involved in is not a biopic, but a fictional musical. In her post, which included a portrait of a woman and two cats, she clarified that she would play “an extremely intelligent character” in the film and said it was an honor for her to work with director Jon Chu.
This update comes after reports that Universal Pictures had acquired the rights to Spears ‘ best-selling autobiography The Woman in Me, and Chu would direct the film.

This autobiography details her fame, personal struggles, and the fight for independence from her guardianship. It reached bestseller status shortly after its release. Spears signed a major deal in 2022 for $15 million for her book, considered one of the biggest book deals ever.
Jon Chu, known for major projects such as the upcoming Wicked adaptation and Justin Bieber’s concert film Never Say Never, is reportedly working with producer Marc Platt on this project.
Platt has produced many of Disney’s most recent live-action films, including Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Cruella, and the upcoming Snow White. Spears hinted at this collaboration in August, sharing that she was working on a “secret project” with Platt.

She wrote on social media, “I look forward to sharing with my fans that I am working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He has always made my favorite films… Stay tuned.”
Meanwhile, actress Emma Roberts, who was rumored to play Spears, reacted to this speculation in an interview. She expressed her admiration for the pop star, but also said that these rumors were not based on any confirmed plan.
Roberts said, “I love her assistant. It’s my true dream to play Britney Spears. This is a rumor, but hopefully it will be true.”
These discussions make it clear that there is considerable interest and curiosity about Britney Spears ‘ life journey and a possible film project based on her life. However, according to Spears ‘ recent statements, her upcoming project will be a fictional musical, not a straightforward biopic.
