Blake Lively, who stars in the upcoming film It Ends with Us, didn’t just pour her acting talent into the role; she also opened up her own closet to help create the perfect wardrobe for her character, Lily Bloom.

Lively, known for her impeccable style, brought in many of her personal pieces to add authenticity and flair to the character’s look.

Working closely with costume designer Eric Daman, with whom she has a long-standing relationship from their days on Gossip Girl, Lively was determined to make her character’s wardrobe special.

Given the film’s limited budget, Lively’s contribution was invaluable, allowing for a high-end look that might not have been possible otherwise. Daman, who has known Lively since 2007, was thrilled with her involvement, especially when it came to her extensive collection of Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

“Blake brought in her own jewelry, her Lorraine Schwartz jewelry,” Daman shared, emphasizing how Lively’s pieces elevated the wardrobe. “I didn’t have the budget for that kind of luxury. She has incredible taste and incredible things.”

Lively, 36, would bring her jewelry collection to the set, where she and Daman would sort through the pieces together. Daman described the experience as nothing short of magical.

“She’d bring in her beautiful little jewelry box in a tote bag and be like, ‘What do you think about this?’ I’m like, I actually can’t speak. You open [the jewelry box] and it’s like the Holy Grail. How many pieces of Lorraine Schwartz diamonds are in there? And why are you just carrying that around in a tote bag? It’s so great,” he said.

Jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz, a longtime friend of Lively, was just as excited to see her creations featured in the movie. “It was so exciting to see all the beautiful jewelry in the movie. Blake is the ultimate jewelry girl and she is mine and my sister Ofira’s muse,” Schwartz told PEOPLE.

“Over the years we have been so lucky to jewel her and to know her. She is family and has become a huge creative inspiration to us both. I love that our pieces she wore in the film are from her own personal collection that she’s acquired throughout the years.”

But it wasn’t just jewelry that Lively contributed to the film. She also raided her own and her husband Ryan Reynolds’ closets, as well as borrowed items from her close friend, supermodel Gigi Hadid.

Lively mentioned in an earlier interview that she had taken a few of her husband’s shirts and socks, which made it into the movie. She also borrowed sweaters from Hadid’s clothing line, Guest in Residence.

“There’s a lot of my stuff,” Lively shared. “I have a few of my husband’s shirts and socks randomly in the movie … I have some of Gigi Hadid’s sweaters in the movie. She has this line, Guest in Residence, but also she would run out and I would be like, ‘I want this one’ because of all the really cool patterns and whatnot, and she’d be like, ‘I have that. You can wear mine.’ So some of that.”

Daman praised Lively’s generosity and enthusiasm in sharing her personal wardrobe for the project. “Gigi sent us a ton of amazing stuff from her Guest in Residence collection that we featured in several looks. And we see Ryan’s plaid vest in a Lily Bloom’s store scene.

It all adds such a personal touch to the character. I love that Blake is so open and willing to share her (and her husband’s and her BFF’s!) finery with us. I’m truly grateful,” Daman added.

Even some of the shoes Lively wears in the movie come straight from her own closet. Audiences have already gotten a sneak peek at this in the film’s trailer, where Lively’s character, Lily, steps into a party wearing crystal fishnet Saint Laurent boots — a pair from Lively’s personal collection.

Daman recounted how those boots came to be part of Lily’s look. “I did a later fitting at Blake’s and got to visit the miraculous, literally to-die-for shoe closet. I can’t even tell you how amazing,” he said.

“She brought them in, and what am I going to do? Be like, ‘I don’t know, those feel like middle management. No, that’s not the thing.’ The producers and other people had different ideas,” Daman continued. “But I knew better. She’s wearing f—ing crystal YSL boots and you’re going to do a pan of her walking in.”

Lively’s dedication to the character extends beyond just picking out the perfect pieces; she brings a personal connection to everything she wears on screen. From the jewelry to the shoes, the wardrobe in It Ends with Us is not just a reflection of the character but also of Lively herself. As Daman puts it, “The sparkling boot moment paired with her coat drop is ‘fierce AF’ — much like Lily (and Lively) herself.”

The film It Ends with Us is set to hit theaters on August 9th, where fans will be able to see not just Lively’s performance but also her personal style on full display.
