Billie Eilish Vows to Keep Quiet About Her Dating Life and Sexuality

Billie Eilish has decided she won’t be speaking about her personal life anymore. In a recent interview with Vogue for their November cover story, the 22-year-old singer revealed that she regrets sharing details about her sexuality and dating history in the past. From now on, she intends to keep her private life out of the spotlight.

Eilish made headlines last year when she opened up about her attraction to women in an interview with Variety for their Power of Women issue. At the time, she spoke candidly about how she admired women but also felt intimidated by them. But now, the “Bad Guy” singer wishes she hadn’t spoken so openly.

“I wish no one knew anything about my sexuality or anything about my dating life. Ever, ever, ever,” Eilish told Vogue. “And I hope that they never will again.”

The Grammy-winning artist emphasized that she will no longer talk about these topics in the future. “I’m never talking about my sexuality ever again,” she stated. “And I’m never talking about who I’m dating ever again.”

Eilish’s decision to remain quiet on her personal life stems from the overwhelming attention she received after her comments. She admitted that she didn’t realize the impact her words would have. “I underestimated how things I say will be blown up into the biggest news of the whole world,” she reflected.

Eilish also noted that when she made her comments, she didn’t think she was necessarily coming out, believing her fans already had some understanding of her romantic preferences. “I kind of thought, ‘Wasn’t it obvious?’” she said.

Eilish has had a few high-profile relationships in the past. She was most recently linked to Jesse Rutherford, the lead singer of the alternative band The Neighbourhood.

The two were reported to be dating in October 2022, but they called it quits in May after eight months together. Despite the breakup, sources confirmed that they remain on good terms as friends.

Before Rutherford, Eilish dated actor Matthew Tyler Vorce for over a year, from April 2021 to May 2022. She also dated rapper Brandon Q. Adams, known by his stage name 7:AMP, a relationship she discussed in her Apple TV+ documentary Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry.

In the past, Eilish has spoken about the double standards she faces as a young woman in the public eye when it comes to her personal life. In a 2021 interview with Elle, she expressed frustration over the scrutiny her relationships attract. “Like, oh yeah, that’s everyone else’s business, right? No. Where’s that energy with men?” she said. “I never said, ‘Hey, pay attention to my life.’”

Eilish’s experiences as a celebrity continue to shape how she handles fame. Though she has been in the spotlight since she was a teenager, she’s still learning how to manage it. In the Vogue interview, she acknowledged that she’s growing up in front of the world and is still figuring things out. “We’re all babies. We’re all little kids growing up and learning ourselves,” she said.

Her decision to remain private is part of this learning process, and moving forward, Eilish plans to be more careful about what she shares. With her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, released in May, she’s focusing on her music and keeping the focus away from her personal life.
