Angelina’s sons Maddox and Pax praised for hard work on her movie Without Blood
Angelina Jolie’s sons, Maddox and Pax, have been praised for working hard on the set of their mom’s new movie, Without Blood.
The movie is about life after a war and stars actors Salma Hayek and Demián Bichir. Angelina, who is 49 years old, wrote and directed the movie, which was shown for the first time at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
Salma Hayek, 58, talked about how Maddox, 23, and Pax, 20, worked behind the scenes as assistant directors. Their job was to help Angelina with different parts of making the movie. Hayek said the boys worked really hard and earned the respect of everyone who worked on the film.
“They work hard and take their job seriously,” Hayek said during an interview on September 8.
She also shared how Angelina was very professional when working with her sons. “Angelina is a demanding boss,” Hayek said, explaining that even though the boys were her children, they had to work hard just like everyone else. The two sons made sure to be professional, and Hayek noticed how the crew really liked them.
Hayek shared that Maddox and Pax treated her like a co-worker and not like a friend while they were on set. “They didn’t treat me the same way they do outside of work. They were very serious and made sure I followed the rules on set. It was kind of fun!” she laughed.
At first, Hayek joked around with the boys, but she quickly realized they were taking their jobs seriously. She decided to treat them like other professionals, not like kids she knew. “I had to stop teasing them and treat them with respect because they were working hard,” she said.
Not only were Maddox and Pax on set, but Hayek’s 16-year-old daughter, Valentina, was there too. Hayek said having their kids around made the set feel more comfortable and warm, even though the movie had some very sad and serious parts. “It felt like home,” she said.
Hayek and Angelina have worked together before in the Marvel movie Eternals, but this time, Hayek said the roles felt different. In Eternals, Hayek saw herself as a bit of a mother figure to Angelina. But on Without Blood, it was Angelina who took on the motherly role, running the set like a family. “She was not only a great leader but also very supportive emotionally,” Hayek explained.
Angelina also shared with The Hollywood Reporter that Maddox and Pax have worked on movie sets before. They even helped with her next movie, Maria. Pax is good at taking pictures, and the director of Maria, Pablo Larraín, appreciated his skills.
Angelina is a mom to six children, including Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. She said that as her kids are growing up, they are becoming more independent and can even join her at work. “It’s a new chapter in our lives, and I’m excited to see them becoming more involved,” Angelina said.
