Travis Kelce Gets Emotional Proposing to Taylor Swift: NFL Star Shed ‘a Few Tears’
When Travis Kelce got down on one knee to propose to Taylor Swift, he wasn’t just nervous — he was emotional too.
The Kansas City Chiefs star, 35, opened up about the big moment during a new NFL on FOX interview with Erin Andrews that aired on Sept. 14.
When asked just how rattled he felt before asking the question, Kelce didn’t hold back. “The palms were definitely sweating,” he admitted, adding, “I’m an emotional guy, so there were a few tears here and there.”
Kelce, who recently kicked off his 13th NFL season, couldn’t help but gush about the happiness Swift brings to his life. “She has brought excitement and a joy for life that made me a better man, made me a better person, and made me just that much more comfortable in who I am,” he said.
The pair announced their engagement on Aug. 26 after two years of dating, sharing sweet Instagram photos with the cheeky caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” Kelce proposed at his Missouri home after inviting Swift out for a glass of wine. His dad, Ed Kelce, later told News 5 Cleveland that it was a “beautiful” moment.
The NFL star popped the question with an old mine, brilliant-cut diamond ring — a sparkler Swift has been happily showing off ever since. While the couple was excited to share their engagement news with fans, a source told PEOPLE that their wedding will be a much more private affair. “It will definitely be a private event and not a spectacle,” the insider revealed.
As for what’s next, Kelce says he hopes to be remembered not just for his football career but also for the joy he brings to others. “I just love coming in, playing football, and giving people something to get excited for outside of their lives on Sundays,” he said.
For now, Swift and Kelce are soaking up their engagement bliss. As the insider summed up, “She’s incredibly happy. It’s all just perfect.”
