Prime Video is expanding its bloody, satirical superhero universe south of the border — and Eric Kripke says fans should expect something fresh.

In a new interview with Collider, The Boys creator confirmed that The Boys: Mexico is officially in development, with a pilot script already taking shape. “The pilot of [The] Boys: Mexico is being developed right now,” Kripke shared. “It’s our world but a totally different tone, and it’s super fun. Gael [García Bernal] and Diego [Luna] are executive producers, which is amazing and [they] really engaged with it.”

The Mexico-set spin-off, first announced in 2023, will be written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the screenwriter behind Blue Beetle. While plot details remain top-secret, the series will film in Mexico and dive into new corners of the franchise’s universe.

Kripke hinted that Luna and Bernal — longtime friends who starred together in Alfonso Cuarón’s Y Tu Mamá También (2001) — may also make appearances on-screen, though not in major roles.

What really sets The Boys: Mexico apart is the powerhouse duo behind it. Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal aren’t just Hollywood names — they’re longtime friends whose bond goes back to their breakout roles in Y Tu Mamá También.

Fans still gush about their chemistry more than 20 years later, and now the idea of them shaping this wild superhero universe together has people buzzing. Social media is already full of jokes about how Mexico’s Supes might swap out energy drinks for tequila shots, while others are calling it the “Latino Avengers with attitude.”

It’s clear audiences are eager to see how Mexican culture and Luna and Bernal’s signature touch will add new layers of grit and humor to Prime Video’s biggest franchise.

This isn’t the first time The Boys has expanded its universe. Fans have already been treated to the college-set Gen V, the animated anthology The Boys Presents: Diabolical, and the upcoming prequel series Vought Rising.

Meanwhile, the flagship show just wrapped production on its fifth and final season, set to premiere in 2026.

For Kripke, the challenge has always been making sure each spin-off feels unique while staying true to the chaotic spirit of the franchise. “The world itself meets the standard of all of our spin-offs,” he said, noting that Mexico will bring its own distinct style and humor.

With Luna and Bernal’s creative energy behind the project, fans are already hyped to see how The Boys: Mexico pushes the boundaries of the wildest superhero saga on TV.
