Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are back at it again — not on the basketball court or in a Dunkin’ ad this time, but in a gritty new Netflix thriller. The longtime best friends and Hollywood collaborators star together in The Rip, a crime drama set to premiere on January 16, 2026.

The story kicks off when a group of Miami cops stumbles upon millions of dollars hidden inside a derelict stash house. What sounds like a lucky break quickly turns into chaos, as greed and paranoia eat away at the team’s trust.

Once outsiders learn about the massive cash haul, loyalties are tested, alliances crumble, and nobody can be sure who to believe.

The cast is stacked with talent beyond Damon and Affleck. Steven Yeun (Beef), Teyana Taylor (A Thousand and One), Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace), Sasha Calle (The Flash), Néstor Carbonell (The Dark Knight), Lina Esco (S.W.A.T.), Scott Adkins (John Wick: Chapter 4), and Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) round out the ensemble.

Behind the camera, Joe Carnahan (Narc, Smokin’ Aces) takes the reins as both writer and director. Carnahan says the movie was inspired by his love of classic 1970s cop thrillers like Serpico and Prince of the City, along with the real-life experiences of a close friend who once led tactical narcotics operations for the Miami-Dade Police Department.

“It’s both deeply personal and a tribute to those films that focused on character, tension, and relationships,” he explained in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum.

On the production side, Damon and Affleck are also wearing producer hats through their company Artists Equity. They’re joined by producers Dani Bernfeld and Luciana Damon, with Kevin Halloran and Michael Joe serving as executive producers.

With its mix of powerhouse stars, gritty Miami setting, and old-school cop thriller vibes, The Rip is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most talked-about releases of 2026.

And if Damon and Affleck’s history together is any indication, fans are in for an intense ride full of drama, betrayal, and big-screen chemistry that only these two can deliver.
