Sigourney Weaver is giving a big thumbs-up to FX and Hulu’s new series Alien: Earth — even though she’s no longer part of the franchise.

The 75-year-old actress, who famously played Ellen Ripley in the original films, raved about the show while attending the Toronto International Film Festival, where she was promoting her new movie Dust Bunny.

“I’m really enjoying it,” Weaver told PEOPLE at the festival. “What I admire about it is the scope is so much more profound than just an Alien movie. It’s about our world and what’s dominating it in 100 years — and it feels right on.”

Weaver praised series creator Noah Hawley for expanding the universe with terrifying new ideas, including child-based hybrid creatures, cyborgs, and A.I.-powered synthetics. “The monsters he’s bringing in are just terrifying,” she said with a laugh. “Like, we don’t have enough problems with the alien — now we need 50 more. I can’t believe I’m watching TV.”

Weaver’s praise carries weight — she made history with her Ripley role, scoring a rare Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a sci-fi action film with 1986’s Aliens. She went on to star in Alien 3 (1992) and Alien Resurrection (1997), solidifying her status as one of cinema’s most iconic heroines.

Set in 2120, Alien: Earth takes place two years before the original Alien. The story follows a research vessel that crash-lands on Earth, unleashing Xenomorphs and other deadly life forms. Central to the series are hybrids known as the “Lost Boys,” led by Sydney Chandler’s Wendy, who face the planet’s most dangerous threat yet.

The cast includes Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Babou Ceesay, Samuel Blenkin, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, and more.

Alien: Earth airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on FX and streams on Hulu.
