Camila Fernández, the daughter of Alejandro Fernández and granddaughter of the legendary Vicente Fernández, has unveiled her second studio album La Fernández, released on August 14.

The 27-year-old singer, a proud heiress to one of Mexico’s most iconic musical dynasties, delivers a collection of 10 ranchera tracks infused with contemporary lyrics and deeply personal emotions.

Although Fernández is now “happily married” to Francisco Barba, she drew on her own past experiences with heartbreak and her upbringing in a household shaped by her parents’ divorce.

According to Billboard, “I had my time of heartbreak,” she admitted, adding that her mother often listened to songs about lost love. This emotional history naturally shaped the album’s themes, which range from sorrow to empowerment.

La Fernández, produced by Orlando Aispuro—best known for his work with Carín León—features previously released singles such as “Se Cancela La Llorada,” “Pudimos Ser,” and “No Puedo Dormir Sin Ti.” The album’s focus track, “La Loca Era Yo,” alongside songs like “De Llorar Se Me Secaron Los Ojos,” showcases a more mature and confident side of the artist.

Fernández was heavily involved in the songwriting process, participating in a dedicated camp to ensure the music reflected her personal style and authenticity.

Currently serving as the opening act for her father’s De Rey a Rey tour, Fernández is determined to build her career on her own merit rather than relying solely on her famous surname.

She recalled asking her father for guidance early on, to which he offered two paths: having everything handed to her or working for it herself. She chose the latter, determined to make him proud.

Despite concerns that motherhood might slow her career, Fernández has proven otherwise, earning her father’s respect while balancing her role as a mother and performer.

She remains committed to preserving the rich traditions of Mexican music and charrería, vowing to keep alive the songs of her grandfather, her father, and her own for future generations. “I want my daughter and future generations to know what it means to wear a charro suit with pride,” she said.

With La Fernández, Camila blends legacy and innovation, proving she’s not just continuing her family’s tradition, but making her own mark on Mexican music.
