Jamie Foxx, the famous actor and comedian, is feeling grateful after opening up about a serious health scare he experienced earlier this year. The 56-year-old returned to the stage at the beginning of October in Atlanta, Georgia, where he shared his personal story in a special one-man show called One More Chance: An Evening with Jamie Foxx.

Foxx was hospitalized in April 2023, and the details of his illness were kept private at the time. But earlier this month, he finally got the chance to talk about what happened, and he’s feeling incredibly thankful to be able to tell his side of the story. On Monday, October 14, Foxx posted on Instagram, saying, “God is good. My heart and soul are filled with pure joy.” He added that Atlanta was the perfect place to share his journey.

Foxx, best known for his roles in movies like Django Unchained and Ray, hadn’t been on stage in 18 years. He shared how much he needed to perform in front of a live audience after everything he’s been through. “I needed the stage, and I needed an audience that was made up of nothing but pure love,” he said, expressing deep appreciation for the crowd that came to support him.

Even though Foxx is known for making people laugh, this wasn’t a regular comedy show. He described it as an “artistic explanation” of something that went very wrong. Foxx didn’t hold back from thanking the people who helped save his life. He specifically mentioned the staff at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, where he was treated, and credited them with allowing him to get back on his feet and return to doing what he loves most—performing.

In his Instagram post, he shared the phrase, “#nobaddays,” a reminder from his friend James that he’s been given a second chance.

Photos from the show captured some emotional moments: Foxx raising his arm in the air, wiping his face, and sitting at a piano. One touching part of the night was when Foxx’s 16-year-old daughter, Anelise, joined him on stage to play the electric guitar next to her father.

Many of Foxx’s friends and colleagues praised his return to the stage. Music producer Breyon Prescott wrote in the comments, “The show you put on in Atlanta was one of the most amazing things I’ve seen in my 30 years in this business.” He called Foxx “the most gifted and talented person” he knows.

Rapper Busta Rhymes also celebrated Foxx’s return, writing, “Who God Bless, No man Curse!! Congrats @iamjamiefoxx, you have truly been missed by so many of us.” He encouraged Foxx to keep going, reminding him that “the blessings don’t stop, so we won’t stop!”

Back in July, Foxx revealed that his illness started with a “bad headache,” and that he was “gone for 20 days.” He doesn’t remember much of what happened during that time, but he’s thankful to be recovering and moving forward with his life.

Foxx first shared news about his one-man show in September, letting fans know he was finally ready to open up about what he went through. His emotional performance in Atlanta was a special night, not just for him, but for everyone in the audience who got to witness his powerful story of survival and gratitude.
