Thirty years after Speed became a hit in 1994, Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock came together with the movie’s director, Jan de Bont, to look back on their time making the action-packed film. The reunion took place at Beyond Fest, where the stars shared some fun memories, including one intense scene where things got a little too real.

During the event, Reeves talked about a day on set when the bus they were on began crashing into cars. “Do you remember that day on the bus?” Reeves asked Bullock, as reported by IndieWire. “We were crashing through all the cars on the street.

I remember we didn’t know much about what was happening. We were all on the bus, driving down near San Diego, close to the ocean, and all of a sudden, we’re actually hitting cars. Boom! Boom! Everyone on the bus went crazy. People were screaming.”

Bullock, who played a bus passenger named Annie Porter in the movie, shared that even though she got a bus driver’s license for the role, she never actually drove the bus during filming. “It’s not an easy vehicle to handle,” she said. “The fun part was I was sitting at the front of the bus like I was driving, but someone else was really in control from the roof.”

In Speed, Reeves played Jack Traven, a police officer who had to stop a bomb from blowing up a city bus. The twist was that the bus couldn’t go slower than 50 miles per hour, or the bomb would go off.

Along with Bullock’s character, the two worked together to keep the bus moving while trying to figure out how to stop the bomb. The movie also starred Dennis Hopper as the villain, with Jeff Daniels, Alan Ruck, and Joe Morton in key roles.

Reeves and Bullock’s stories about filming showed how real the stunts sometimes felt, even though everything was planned carefully. Crashing into real cars during that scene wasn’t something the actors were expecting, but it added to the excitement on set.

Speed was a huge success when it came out, thanks to its exciting action and the chemistry between Reeves and Bullock. However, when a sequel was made in 1997, Speed 2: Cruise Control, Reeves didn’t return. In the sequel, Bullock’s character has a new boyfriend, played by Jason Patric, and they end up trying to stop a cruise ship from crashing, with Willem Dafoe as the villain.

When asked about making a third Speed movie, Bullock wasn’t sure if it would happen. “It would take a lot from everyone involved,” she said. “I’m not sure if the industry would be brave enough to take that on. If Jan de Bont can’t make what he imagines come to life, it wouldn’t be good enough for the audience.”

The reunion gave fans a chance to hear what it was like filming such an intense movie, and it was clear that both Reeves and Bullock have fond memories of the experience. Their stories brought back the excitement of a movie that became a classic for action fans everywhere.
