Robert Carlyle is set to join CBS’s hit drama Watson for its second season, stepping into the iconic role of Sherlock Holmes opposite Morris Chestnut’s Dr. John Watson.

Carlyle will appear in a recurring guest‐star capacity, marking the second time in recent years that the network has featured Holmes, following Johnny Lee Miller’s seven‐season run as the detective on Elementary.

Season 2’s supporting cast includes Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Ritchie Coster, Inga Schlingmann and Rochelle Aytes. Notably, Randall Park returns, having previously portrayed Holmes and Watson’s arch‐nemesis, Professor James Moriarty, in the freshman season.

“ We are thrilled to have the mighty Robert Carlyle join the cast of Watson in Season 2,” said showrunner Craig Sweeny.

“The man has played iconic roles in projects like Trainspotting, The Full Monty and 28 Weeks Later … and now he steps into the shoes of the most iconic detective of all, Sherlock Holmes.

When Watson’s best friend and former partner makes a shocking reappearance in his life, Watson is forced to confront their shared past—and a secret that may lie buried within Watson’s own body.”

Carlyle brings an extensive résumé to the part, having starred in films such as The World Is Not Enough, Angela’s Ashes and The 51st State, as well as in television series like ABC’s Once Upon a Time, Stargate Universe and the BBC’s The War of the Worlds miniseries.

He also led FX’s The Full Monty TV adaptation. He is represented by Link Entertainment, Gersh and Hamilton Hodell.

Watson was officially renewed for a second season in March. The series picks up after Holmes’s presumed death, following Watson as he opens a clinic dedicated to rare and unusual medical conditions.

Season 2 promises a dramatic twist: Sherlock Holmes reemerges, believed dead, compelling Watson to face not only his former partner but also a deeply buried secret linked to his own health.

Season 2 of Watson premieres on October 13 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS and will be available to stream the following day on Paramount+.

Alongside Craig Sweeny and Morris Chestnut, executive producers include Larry Teng, Dr. Shäron Moalem, Aaron Kaplan and Brian Morewitz, with production handled by CBS Studios.
