Tyler Hynes is getting ready to bring some holiday cheer to screens with his new Hallmark Christmas movie, Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Hynes shared a bit about his experience working on the film and how another project helped him get into the spirit of this Kansas City Chiefs-inspired rom-com.

While promoting the upcoming Hallmark movie, Hynes talked about how his role in Groomsmen, where he played a father, played a part in preparing him for his next role. He admitted that playing a dad wasn’t something he was used to, especially in a rom-com setting.

“The actor who played my daughter in Groomsmen, she’s a huge Swiftie,” Hynes explained. “She got me into Taylor Swift’s music in preparation for the other movie.”

His next project, inspired by Swift and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, brings together football fandom and holiday romance. “It was a dream,” Hynes said, reflecting on his time preparing for the role.

In Holiday Touchdown, Hynes stars alongside Hunter King. King plays Alana Higman, a die-hard Chiefs fan who is determined to win the team’s “Fan of the Year” contest for her family, who has been rooting for the Chiefs for generations.

Hynes’ character, Derrick, is in charge of evaluating the finalists in the competition. As the two work together, sparks start to fly, but complications arise when Alana’s grandfather’s lucky vintage Chiefs hat goes missing.

The movie combines the excitement of football with the magic of Christmas, and fans of both the Kansas City Chiefs and Hallmark’s feel-good movies can look forward to the heartwarming story. Hallmark announced the Chiefs partnership back in June, and the film is set to be a key part of their annual Countdown to Christmas lineup.

Hynes is eager for fans to see the movie, sharing his excitement about his upcoming projects. Reflecting on Groomsmen, Hynes mentioned how playing a father to a child around that age was a new challenge for him.

“I think I’ve played a father before, but this was the first time in a while, and it felt unique,” he said. He added that Groomsmen, which also stars Jonathan Bennett and B.J. Britt, was more of an intimate story despite its big cast.

The movie, part of a trilogy about weddings, has a strong focus on friendships and support between men during major life moments, Hynes noted. He explained that Bennett had come up with the idea for the movie and pitched it to him while they were at a hotel.

“It’s about guys helping each other through landmark moments in their lives, centered around weddings,” Hynes shared. “I thought it was a beautiful idea and a good excuse for us to spend time together.”

Hynes’ transition from the role of a father in Groomsmen to his new character in Holiday Touchdown seems to have been a smooth one. The actor, who’s been a staple in Hallmark movies, is always excited to try something new, and this upcoming rom-com seems to have plenty of fresh twists.

With a Taylor Swift-inspired friendship bracelet scene between Hynes and his on-screen daughter and the backdrop of the Kansas City Chiefs, Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story promises to deliver festive fun.

As the story unfolds, fans can expect a blend of romance, football, and holiday magic — the perfect combination for Hallmark’s Christmas lineup.

Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story will premiere later this year as part of Hallmark’s much-anticipated Countdown to Christmas event, bringing joy to fans of both holiday movies and the Kansas City Chiefs alike.
