Famous Colombian singer Juanes has decided he doesn’t want to sing in English. While many singers try singing in English, Juanes feels it’s not something he needs to do. He talked about this at the Toronto International Film Festival, where his new movie, Pimpinero: Blood and Oil, was shown for the first time.

Juanes, whose full name is Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez, said he prefers singing in Spanish, his first language.

“My English isn’t perfect,” Juanes said. “When you sing in another language, you focus so much on saying the words right that you lose the feeling of the song.”

Juanes likes listening to English music, but he doesn’t feel like making his own music in English. He has been making music for many years and is happy singing in Spanish.

“I still think and dream in Spanish, so it feels more natural for me to keep singing in it,” he explained.

Juanes Tries Acting for the First Time

Besides making music, Juanes is also trying something new—acting in a movie! His first movie is called Pimpinero: Blood and Oil. The movie was directed by Andrés Baiz, who also worked on the famous show Narcos. It’s about three brothers who get involved in crime and corruption. Juanes is acting with other stars like Laura Osma, Alejandro Speitzer, and Alberto Guerra. The movie will be on Prime Video later this year.

Juanes said acting was fun and different from making music.

“It was far from my normal life, but I really enjoyed it. Acting is just another way to make art,” he said.

Juanes also shared that when he was younger, his brother had a camera, and they used to make fun home movies together.

Juanes Is Also on Tour

Juanes is not only acting, but he’s also traveling around the world to sing! He’s on his Vida Cotidiana World Tour, performing songs from his 2023 album, Vida Cotidiana. He has already performed in many places in Europe and will soon perform in countries like Paraguay and Chile, as well as U.S. cities like Missouri and Los Angeles.

Earlier this summer, Juanes posted a video on Instagram to thank his fans for their love. He showed clips from his concerts and said, “We’ve had so much fun on this part of the Europe tour. Thank you for the love and the chance to sing for all of you.”

Staying True to His Roots

Even though many singers choose to sing in English, Juanes is proud to keep singing in Spanish. He has won 26 Latin Grammy Awards, showing that he’s already a big success. Now, he’s trying new things like acting, but he remains proud of his culture and language. By continuing to sing in Spanish and trying new things like acting, Juanes shows that he’s growing as an artist, but always in a way that feels true to him.
