Snoop Dogg, the famous rapper and TV personality, has been making music for a long time. One big reason he’s stayed so successful is because he’s always open to learning and improving. He doesn’t mind when other people have good advice, even if he doesn’t know everything.

“I just want to keep getting better,” Dogg says. He likes to be around people who push him to improve. One of those people was Pharrell Williams, a top music producer. Pharrell helped Dogg change how he thought about women and the way he talked about them in his songs.

In the late ’90s, Dogg realized he was only rapping about “gangster” life. He thought he had to sound tough and keep it real for the streets. “I felt stuck, like I couldn’t grow,” he said.

Things began to change when Dogg started his own music label, Doggystyle Records, in 1999. But the biggest change came when he worked with Pharrell on his 2002 album Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss. Pharrell encouraged Dogg to think about the way he was rapping about women.

Pharrell suggested Dogg try something different for his 2003 hit song Beautiful. At first, Dogg didn’t think he could make a song like that. “Pharrell made me do that song,” Dogg said. Before that, Dogg often used disrespectful words to talk about women. Pharrell asked him, “When are you going to show women that you love and appreciate them?”

That question made Dogg think hard. He realized he had been too tough on women in his songs, and it was time to change. Pharrell reminded Dogg of the important women in his own family, and that really hit home for him. “I understood what Pharrell was saying,” Dogg said. After that, Dogg started using kinder words in his songs, focusing on love and respect.

Dogg also takes good care of his famous voice. He drinks tea to keep it sounding smooth. “My voice has stayed the same all these years,” he said. “It’s always laid back and cool.”

Now, as a coach on The Voice, Dogg helps young singers. He says he’ll be a caring coach, sharing the lessons he’s learned from his life and career.

Dogg’s story shows that even big stars can grow and change. Thanks to Pharrell’s advice, Dogg learned to show more respect in his music, and he continues to be a better artist and person.
