Hasbro’s beloved rainbow-maned herd is about to trot off the toy shelf and onto the silver screen in its very first live-action feature, courtesy of Amazon MGM Studios and Hasbro Entertainment.

Though still in early development—with writers, directors, and cast yet to be announced—the project is already sparking excitement among fans young and old.

Since debuting in 1982, My Little Pony has enchanted generations through colorful figures, animated series, and feature films. Its last big-screen outing, My Little Pony: A New Generation, pivoted straight to Netflix in 2021 after its theatrical release was shelved due to COVID-19—and quickly became a global hit.

Now, Amazon MGM and Hasbro aim to capture that same magic in live action, blending real-world charm with the ponies’ trademark neon hues.

Fans have been buzzing on social media: Twitter’s #MLPLiveAction thread sees die-hard “bronies” (teen and adult male fans who emerged around the 2010 Friendship Is Magic series) and longtime pony enthusiasts sharing casting wish-lists ranging from A-list megastars to fresh faces.

One viral TikTok even mashes up scenes from Blade Runner 2049 with pony trot sequences—proof that fandom creativity runs wild when pony magic is in the air.

Behind the scenes, Hasbro is leaning into a proven strategy of bringing its top IPs to screens big and small. Alongside this project are live-action adaptations of Clue with Sony, a Netflix series set in the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms, and multiple Magic: The Gathering endeavors. It’s all part of Hasbro’s playbook to turn toy-box favorites into multimedia blockbusters.

With My Little Pony toys honored by the National Toy Hall of Fame and sold in over a thousand variations, the stage is set for a cinematic spectacle that could redefine what family entertainment looks like in 2026 and beyond.

As development gallops ahead, fans and curious newcomers alike will be watching for casting updates—and dreaming of the day they see their favorite ponies spring to life.
