As the back-to-school season approaches, Jimmy Fallon is feeling a mix of emotions.

The Tonight Show host, 49, recently shared his thoughts with PEOPLE about his daughters, Winnie, 11, and Frances, 9, heading back to class soon. Fallon, who is also celebrating the release of his new children’s book 5 More Sleeps ‘Til Halloween, jokingly admits he doesn’t want his daughters to leave.

“I don’t want them to go to school,” Fallon said with a laugh. “I don’t want them meeting other people or doing anything. I just wish they could stay with us forever.”

Despite his feelings, Fallon acknowledges that Winnie and Frances are eagerly looking forward to the new school year. “They love their school and friends,” he said. “It’s another chapter in their lives, another fun adventure.”

This summer was particularly eventful for the Fallon family as the girls attended camp for the first time. Fallon and his wife, Nancy Juvonen, felt a bit emotional about the milestone.

“We were so sad when they left,” Fallon shared. “You have limited time to talk to them—just five minutes. I miss them so much. I’m like, ‘Please don’t leave us.’ But they had a blast.”

In addition to his parenting adventures, Fallon is excited about his upcoming book, 5 More Sleeps ‘Til Halloween, which is set to be released in September.

The book tells the story of two siblings eagerly counting down the days to Halloween, making it a perfect read for the spooky season. Fallon hopes it will delight young readers and even serve as a fun Halloween decoration.

“Even if you don’t read it, it looks great on display,” Fallon noted. “It makes a fantastic gift for kids who love Halloween and can’t wait for the holiday.”
