Mariah Carey is facing an unimaginable loss, mourning the deaths of both her sister Alison and their mother Patricia, who both passed away on August 24, 2024.

Alison, who had endured many hardships throughout her life, died peacefully in her home in Coxsackie, New York, just after midnight, while Patricia’s passing was confirmed later that same day.

David Baker, Alison’s friend and advocate, shared the sad news and reflected on Alison’s life. He had known her for nine years and was a constant support, helping her find a safe and comfortable place to live during her final years.

He recalled how she longed for independence and was grateful to spend her last days at home rather than in a nursing facility. “She got her wish,” Baker said. “She died in her own home.”

Alison, who was 63, had four children—three sons and a daughter—who had the chance to visit her just weeks before she passed. Her daughter, who lived nearby, made a point to visit daily, showing the closeness they shared.

Baker described Alison as a highly intelligent and sensitive woman who had faced many difficulties in her life. “She had a tough life,” he said. “We saw it coming, but it’s still a shock.”

He first met Alison in 2015 after she suffered a severe brain injury during a home invasion, which led to a long and painful recovery process. From that moment, he became a loyal friend, often visiting her and being a constant presence in her life.

Despite her struggles, Alison held on to her dignity and a sense of independence. She and Mariah had a complicated relationship, and it had been decades since they last saw each other. In her memoir, Mariah had written that for her own well-being, she needed to keep her distance from both Alison and their brother, Morgan.

This distance left Alison unsure of the last time she and Mariah had been together, believing it might have been as far back as the 1990s or early 2000s. Alison wasn’t even aware that Patricia had passed away on the same day she did, highlighting the emotional and physical distance between the siblings.

In a statement, Mariah, 55, expressed the profound pain of losing both her mother and sister in such a short time. “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend.

Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” she said. “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

The loss of Alison and Patricia on the same day is a heartbreaking chapter in Mariah Carey’s life, one filled with grief and the hope that both her mother and sister have found peace.
