Prince Harry is giving readers another chance to dive into his life story as his memoir, Spare, is set to be released in paperback this fall.

Fans in the United States can get their hands on the new edition on October 22, while those in the United Kingdom will have to wait until October 24. The announcement came from the book’s publisher, Penguin Random House.

Interestingly, the paperback won’t feature any new content. It’s common for paperback versions to include a new chapter or an afterword, but not this time.

Penguin Random House has confirmed that the paperback will be the same as the hardcover edition. It seems like this choice might be a step towards mending fences with his family, especially since the memoir stirred up quite a bit of drama upon its initial release.

The timing of the paperback release is also catching some attention. It’s happening around the same time that King Charles and Queen Camilla are scheduled to tour Australia and Samoa. Buckingham Palace had announced that the King and Queen would visit these countries this fall.

Their visit includes attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa, from October 21 to October 26. This meeting is significant for King Charles, as it’s his first tour of Commonwealth countries since becoming the head of the Commonwealth in September 2022.

Prince Harry’s relationship with his father, King Charles, and his older brother, Prince William, has been strained for some time. Things have been tense since Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back from their official royal roles in 2020 and moved to California.

The couple wanted to start a new life, away from the royal spotlight. But tensions seemed to deepen after the release of their Netflix series, Harry & Meghan, in December 2022, followed by the publication of Spare in January 2023.

Despite the family drama, Harry has always been open about his desire to share his story for a greater purpose. In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, he described Spare as a “raw account” of his life, covering “the good, the bad, and everything in between.” Harry was clear that he didn’t write the book to influence people’s opinions, including those of his family.

He sees the memoir as a continuation of his own journey toward better mental health. “This book and its truths are in many ways a continuation of my own mental health journey,” Harry explained. “It’s a raw account of my life.”

Harry went on to say that he hopes sharing his experiences will help others who might be going through similar struggles. “If sharing my experience makes a positive difference in someone’s life, well, I can’t think of anything more rewarding than that,” he added.

Spare takes readers through the different stages of Harry’s life. It starts with his childhood, growing up in the royal family and dealing with the death of his mother, Princess Diana, in 1997. The book also covers his time in the British Army and his love story with Meghan Markle. It’s a candid and personal look at the ups and downs he’s faced, showing a side of Harry that the public doesn’t usually see.

When Spare first came out on January 10, 2023, it was an instant hit, becoming a bestseller around the world. It sold over six million copies, earning a Guinness World Record for being the fastest-selling nonfiction book ever. Clearly, people were eager to hear what Harry had to say.

The paperback edition will look similar to the hardcover, featuring the same cover image. However, it will come in a newly designed package. It will be published in 16 different languages, making Harry’s story accessible to even more readers around the globe. In North America, Random House US and Random House Canada will release the book, while Transworld will publish it in the UK.

By choosing not to add any new content to the paperback, Harry seems to be sending a message that he’s said what he needed to say. It could be seen as a way to avoid further controversy and keep the peace with his family.

As the paperback edition prepares to hit shelves, Prince Harry continues to use his platform to advocate for mental health and share his personal journey.

Spare offers a glimpse into the life of a prince who chose a different path. It’s an honest account of his experiences, challenges, and the decisions that led him to where he is today. With the paperback edition on the way, Harry’s story is set to reach even more readers, continuing the conversation about the royal family and the importance of mental health.
