Gena Rowlands Remembered by Son Nick Cassavetes After Her Passing at 94

Nick Cassavetes paid tribute to his mother, actress Gena Rowlands, after she died at the age of 94.

Iconic actress Gena Rowlands, best known for her roles in A Woman Under the Influence and The Notebook, has died at the age of 94. She died on Wednesday, August 14, at her home in California with her family by her side, as confirmed by her son Nick Cassavetes’ agent.

Following her death, Nick, who is a director, took to Instagram to pay a heartfelt tribute to his late mother. One post featured a photo of Rowlands from the film Gloria, with the message, “This photo graces every one of my office walls! An amazing strong talented woman has left us! Rest easy Gena Rowlands!”

Another post shared by Nick showed a black-and-white photo of Rowlands with her late husband, filmmaker John Cassavetes, at her film Opening Night. The post was captioned, “Another great team reunited! RIP Gena Rowlands.”

 Gena Rowlands and John Cassavetes were partners not only in life but also in their professional careers, working together in ten films including Gloria, Opening Night and Minnie & Moskowitz. Rowlands earned two Oscar nominations for Best Actress for her performances in A Woman Under the Influence and Gloria.

In 2012, Rowlands remarried retired businessman Robert Forrest. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease five years ago, as revealed by her son Nick in an interview in June.

Rowlands is remembered not only for her incredible talent but also for the legacy she left behind through her children Nick and her daughters Alexandra and Zoe.
