Actor Richard Gere surprised Today Show viewers during a live interview on Wednesday, November 20. He accidentally made an inappropriate hand gesture, leaving host Savannah Guthrie shocked.

“You just made an obscene gesture on this family morning show!” Guthrie exclaimed, playfully covering Gere’s hand with a stack of papers. Laughing, she added, “I’m bleeping you!”

The gesture wasn’t intentional. Gere explained that it was part of a scene from his upcoming show, The Agency. Earlier, the show had played a clip from the series, but it cut off right before his character made the same gesture.

“You didn’t show it, but that’s what I did in the scene!” Gere said, laughing. “My hand just did it—I had no control!”

This funny moment came just one day after singer Cher accidentally said a bad word on the Today Show. Guthrie couldn’t help but laugh and said, “I don’t know what’s happening this week!”

Richard Gere is starring in a new TV series called The Agency. It is based on a French show called The Bureau. The story is about a CIA agent, played by Michael Fassbender, who has to adjust to life after leaving his undercover job.

The show also stars famous actors like Jeffrey Wright, Katherine Waterston, Jodie Turner-Smith, Dominic West, and Hugh Bonneville.

Gere shared that he was excited to join the project. He and his wife, Alejandra Silva, had watched the original French series and enjoyed it.

“It’s very well-written and terrific,” Gere said. “We filmed it like a movie, with movie directors and actors. It didn’t feel any different from making a film.”

The Agency is the first TV series Gere has ever acted in. It will stream on Paramount+ and Showtime starting November 29.

You can also catch the Today Show every weekday morning on NBC at 7 a.m. ET for more live moments like this one.
