A.R. Rahman, the famous music composer known for his work on Slumdog Millionaire, and his wife Saira Banu have decided to separate after being married for nearly 30 years. The couple shared this news through their lawyer’s Instagram post on Tuesday, November 19.

In their statement, they said the decision was very difficult for them. “After many years of marriage, Saira and A.R. Rahman have made the decision to separate. This comes after emotional challenges in their relationship,” the statement read. They also requested privacy, asking the public to understand and respect their feelings during this time.

Even in sadness, we try to find meaning, though it may not always be clear.” He thanked his friends and fans for their support and asked them to give the family space during this tough time.

Rahman and Saira were married in 1995 and spent 29 years together. They have three children: a son, Ameen, who is 21 years old, and two daughters, Khatija, 28, and Raheema.

After the announcement, their children also shared messages online. Ameen posted on Instagram, asking people to respect their family’s privacy.
