Maisy Stella, known for her standout performance in the Sundance hit My Old Ass, has just joined the cast of Poetic License, the first feature film directed by Maude Apatow.
This movie marks Apatow’s debut as a director and also features actors Andrew Barth Feldman, Cooper Hoffman, and Leslie Mann. The story was written by Raffi Donatich.
The film will be produced under Jewelbox Pictures, a new production company that Apatow recently launched with her friend and longtime collaborator Olivia Rosenbloom.
Poetic License tells the story of Liz, a former therapist about to become an empty nester, who becomes an unexpected source of tension between two best friends and college seniors, Sam and Ari. As the boys compete for her attention, Liz finds herself reevaluating her own life.
Maisy Stella’s role in My Old Ass has brought her a lot of attention recently. Her performance in the film was praised for its honesty and depth, helping to make the coming-of-age movie a hit at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2024.
The film was later picked up by Amazon MGM Studios for a theatrical release on September 13, 2024, and it will be available on Prime Video starting November 7, 2024. Maisy’s acting talent has been widely recognized, earning her a nomination for the Breakthrough Performer category at this year’s Gotham Awards.
Besides Poetic License, Maisy has also recently wrapped up filming on Flowervale Street, directed by David Robert Mitchell. In this upcoming movie, she stars alongside big names like Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor. Flowervale Street is set to hit IMAX theaters on May 16, 2025.
Stella is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.
